Hey Anna

Hey Anna plays Mercury on 9.24, tours with The Boxer Rebellion in the fall

Can’t say goodbye to the warm summer breeze and cool ocean waves? Just put on those headphones and turn up Run Koko, Hey Anna’s sunny, nostalgic indie-pop album from 2015. In just a few seconds, a reverb-drenched guitar will open up the sky, spacey synths will sparkle like sun on waves, drums and bass will paint the horizon with a delicate, eclectic groove, and dreamy mezzo vocals will flux and flow like the sea - and if you need help visualizing that look no further than the video for opening track "Island." We are streaming below their darker one (and set in a more familiar city environment) for shoegazy single 'Anaphaze.". Get a taste of the band's soothing soundscape on September 24 at the Mercury Lounge, before they sail off on a three week, fall US tour with The Boxer Rebellion.

Hey Anna plays Baby's All Right on July 9th

Fronted by the three eclectic Rauch-Sasseen sisters, Brooklyn/New Jersey band Hey Anna bring unabashed ear candy to the NYC scene. Sporting God Help the Girl-like vocals, quirky synths, and delicious lyrics, singles like "By the Bay" remind that life's many pleasures are still small and accessible. The band has a new EP in the works, and will be playing Baby's All Right on July 9th. - Jillian Dooley

Best of NYC 2014 - Open Submission Results for INDIE POP

Last week we started publishing the results of our picks from our Best of NYC Year End Poll's Open Submissions for the genres Alt Rock/Power Pop, Songwriters/Rootsy Pop and Electronic. A bunch of categories are left, but it's now time to go Indie-Poppy! Pop has been invading the NYC scene in the last decade with bands that retain NYC's signature edgy sound, but blend it with more melodic and uptempo elements. Competition was fierce in this category, with an incredible amount of really good bands - darn, WHY can't we let them all through? Who created this poll's rules anyway? Anyway, this is what our jurors went for:

Total submissions in this category: 42

Artists qualified to the next stage (i.e. the Readers' Poll, starting around 01.20):

1. The Landing - 8 (out of 10)

---

2. HEY ANNA - 7.83

---

3. The Cabana Kids - 7.5

---

3. BRAEVES - 7.5

---

Honorable Mentions (scores above 7):

Éyal hai, Pink Murder, The Letter Yellow, Born Cages, Jonah Delso, Canon Logic, Rathborne.

Jurors: Jason Behrends (The Deli Chicago), Terra J. Jura (The Deli Nashville), PDG (The Deli NYC)

Stay tuned for more results from the open submissions, and then for the readers' poll, and then the final chart!

Hey Anna celebrates single release at Mercury tonight (08.08)

In the midst of recording their newest album, pop trio Hey Anna is set to release their single “By the Bay (La Revolucion)” and will celebrate with a performance at Mercury Lounge tonight, August 8th.  Fronted by the three eclectic Rauch-Sasseen sisters, the single follows self-titled EP “Hey Anna” and their more recent “Pompette,” both short collections of energetic pop layered with quirky synths and dissonant harmonies.  Crafting intricate vocal layers like only sisters can, the girls are bringing unabashed joy to the Brooklyn music scene, and we are loving their energy. Be sure to come party with the band tonight, and watch their video for our favorite Pompette track “Dance Until Three” here. - Jillian Dooley

Hey Anna wins the Deli NYC's Year End Poll INDIE POP Open Submissions

Dammit Hey Anna! Nothing reminds me of how cold it is outside quite like a great band talking about how much fun it is to laugh and play in the warm weather. But latest EP 'Pompette' has done just this to me: with tracks like 'Tim McQue' and 'Pia' brimming over with the shimmering, sunny and pop-tastic sensibility that is making this band of three sisters get noticed. The group might come across as modest and unpretentious, but Hey Anna's music drives home a very clear message: get out of your house, and find yourself a piece of heaven. Do just that when you see the group play at The Bowery Electric next Friday night (Jan 24th), and check out 'Dance Until 3' below to hear tons of good reasons to keep active at odd hours of the day. Mike Levine (@Goldnuggets)

We added this song to The Deli's playlist of Best NYC songs by emerging NYC artists - check it out!
