Buzz Alert! High Waisted unveils new video for "Trust" + tours

With such a touch-and-go winter, I'm not going to be convinced that the first day of Spring has actually arrived until all of the snow has melted off my front lawn. Luckily for me, I have garage pop band, High Waisted, to warm me up and get me into that summer mindset. The NYC-based group deals in sunshine surf vibes, drawing heavily from music of the mid-60's, but puts their own, quirky spin on things. Their songs are fun, high-energy tracks guaranteed to have you California dreaming, even while you shlep through the remainder of slush. Right now, the band is touring the East Coast in support of their latest album, On Ludlow, but we're sure that they won't be away from New York for long. In the meantime, take a look at the official video from their new single, "Trust" streaming below.-Olivia Sisinni

Crushed Out premieres new video "Love Howl"

The newest bare-knuckled single/video combo from Brooklyn-based duo Crushed Out, "Love Howl," delivers blaring, bluesy garage rock reminiscent of powerful bands like Jack White's side project Dead Weather. The track lives up to its name, with vocals yelping their way through fuzzy guitars, and a primal drumbeat. The video is DIY-ish but drips with animal magnetism, pairing the tune with images of mystical, half-human creatures losing themselves to their mating calls. (Why humans don't do mating calls by the way? Let's bring them back, NYC!) Be sure to catch Crushed Out at their Le Poisson Rogue album release show on September 28 with High Waisted, Caged Animals, and Prima. -Olivia Sisinni

High Waisted releases video for "Party in the Back"+ plays Baby's All Right on 02.04

We've been waiting for some "proper" recordings from Brooklyn vintage pop quartet High Waisted since we booked them for our 40th NYC issue launch party back in 2014. The band only had these uber lo-fi recordings available online, until, finally, this week they announced the upcoming release of a full length album entitled "On Ludlow," unveiling this fun video for single "Party in the Back." A true and tried party band, High Waisted blends the classic NYC garage rock sound with pop melodies reminiscent of the early '60s' lightharted pop. Don't miss their show on February 4 at Baby's All Right celebrating the finale of their "Winter Whatever" Tour.

Weekly Feature: High Waisted plays Baby's All Right on 03.07

What do you get when you combine surf rock and dream pop with the spirit of improvisational freedom? New York City’s High Waisted appears to be hitting those three measurements with an increasingly electrifying energy. Their "Acid Tape Vol. 1" recordings resulted from a single take directly on reel-to-reel tape (in a haunted house down in Nashville no less). A somewhat refreshing approach in this often over-processed digital age. What emerged is a psyched out version of surf rock enhanced by fuzzed-out bass, reverberated guitars and catchy vocal melodies.
